Tesla Beats Q3 Earnings Forecasts Amid Musk’s SpaceX Merger Speculation

Tesla surpassed expectations in its third-quarter earnings for 2026, reporting revenue of $28.05 billion and earnings of $0.48 per share, beating analysts’ predictions of $27.9 billion in revenue and $0.43 per share. However, these figures were slightly down from the $28.23 billion in revenue recorded in the previous quarter. Despite a 3% decline in automotive revenue compared to the same period last year, Tesla remains a significant player in the electric vehicle market.

During Tesla’s earnings call, CEO Elon Musk hinted at the possibility of merging Tesla with his aerospace and artificial intelligence company, SpaceX. Although Musk acknowledged the potential benefits of such a merger, he refrained from providing specific details. He noted that special committees from both companies are exploring the proposal, though no agreement on the transaction terms has been reached yet. Any merger would need the approval of at least 50% of Tesla’s shareholders.

As Tesla continues to diversify its interests beyond electric vehicles, expanding into artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, robotics, and renewable energy, the company faces several challenges. Its Robotaxi service is encountering difficulties in fleet expansion and entering new cities, while the production of Optimus humanoid robots is also facing hurdles. Nevertheless, Musk remains optimistic, expressing his belief that humanoid robots could evolve into one of the world’s largest product categories.

Tesla’s ambitions in emerging technologies are met with growing competition, particularly from Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers offering lower-priced alternatives. This competitive landscape underscores the challenges Tesla faces as it seeks to maintain its innovative edge and meet its expansion goals.
