In a significant leadership overhaul, Demis Hassabis is stepping down from his role as chief executive of Google DeepMind. As the AI research unit undergoes restructuring, Hassabis, who co-founded DeepMind in 2010, will transition to a new position as chair of the organization and assume the role of chief scientist at Alphabet, Google’s parent company. Koray Kavukcuoglu, currently serving as the chief technology officer, will succeed Hassabis as head of DeepMind, taking on the title of senior vice-president.
