South Korea is preparing to host a critical sideline meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping this Thursday.
The two leaders will be in the country for the APEC summit. Trump, speaking from Tokyo, was bullish on the talks. “That’s a big meeting, and I think it’s going to work out very well,” he said.
This meeting is seen as essential to calm a new trade flare-up. The US has threatened 100% tariffs from November 1 in response to China’s rare earth controls.
This escalation, which also includes US port fees and Chinese countermeasures, has rattled global markets.
Trump, however, predicted a “fantastic meeting” and a positive result “for everybody.”
“We will be going to South Korea and the following day I am meeting with President Xi,” Trump confirmed, highlighting the meeting’s importance on his schedule.
