President Donald Trump has halted all trade talks with Canada, citing an “egregious” ad from Ontario that featured Ronald Reagan .

“Based on their egregious behavior, all trade negotiations with Canada are hereby terminated,” Trump wrote on truth social. He called the ad “fake.”

The ad used a 1987 clip of Reagan warning against protectionism to protest 35% US tariffs on Canadian  goods.

The ad’s use of the speech has also been contested by the Ronald Reagan  Presidential Foundation. They stated the “selective audio” “misrepresents” the full speech.

The suspension of talks, confirmed by secretary of state Marco Rubio, throws the c$3.6 billion daily trade relationship into chaos.
